Since we
are naming our tables after the planets, we had previously purchased some
one-inch square stickers with pictures of the planets on them. The Gryphon
designed the escort cards to leave a space for those stickers, which would
indicate the table.
The hotel
had also requested that we indicate on the back what people were eating.
Our original event coordinator at the hotel had suggested using colored
dots, but that would require the kitchen referring to a guide to the colors.
Plus, since we're using colored LED lights on the tables, that sort of
code wouldn't be helpful.
I wanted
to find stickers of little cows, chickens and fish to indicate the meals,
along with a fourth sticker for those with the children's entree. We walked
through the aisle at Michael's, looking for appropriate stickers.
At first
we couldn't find anything. We considered using letters, such as "B"
for beef and "C" for chicken. But none of the packets of alphabet
letters appealed to us, and we would have had to purchased several of
them to get enough letters.
Finally,
we found some packets that had exactly what we wanted. We bought several
packets of a farm animal set, along with a packet of fish stickers. For
the children's meal, we bought a packet of smiley face stickers.
Then I wanted
to go up to the mall and pick up some more foundation from Clinique. I'd
received a call that they were having a special, and I needed more foundation
anyway. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the Clinique counters at
different stores hold their events at different times. So after I already
selected my foundation and eyeliner (a darker one than normal, for a more
dramatic eye on my wedding day), after I'd paid for them, the clerk mentioned
their special was coming up.
"I
got a call that it was this week," I said.
She said
that the call must have come from the Clinique at Boscov's, which has
its sale at a different time. But I didn't feel like arguing about it,
or having her refund my sale. After I took a look at what they were offering
as free bonuses, none of it really appealed to me anyway. Next time, though,
I'll be sure to ask before I make the purchase!
Lastly,
we stopped at Staples to get a binder for me to put together important
information for Mom for the wedding. She's agreed to act as my representative
that day, to help resolve issues and make sure everything is running smoothly.
I've promised her that I will put together a binder full of information
to assist her, including copies of contracts and the floor plan.
Once we
got home, we worked on the escort cards. First, we established which table
would go where in the room and determined the names for each of the tables.
Then, I placed the stickers for the tables on each of the cards, handing
the completed sheet to The Gryphon, who consulted the spreadsheet of responses
I'd been keeping, to place a sticker on the back of the cards to indicate
each meal choice.
When we
finished that, The Gryphon looked through the restaurants at Disney World
to determine where we should seek reservations. I never would have considered
doing this ahead of time, but fortunately, my hair stylist told me that
it's necessary for any of the nicer restaurants.
Together,
we chose a few, and early this week, The Gryphon made reservations for
us. I put the confirmation numbers and other information in the folder
I have of all our honeymoon materials.
Then we
ate dinner of leftover blackened tilapia, which I had made, along with
veggies and rice. Afterwards, I dropped The Gryphon off at his weekly
meeting of Philadelphia Area Game Enthusiasts (PAGE), stopping at the
grocery store on the way home.
When I returned
home, I did an 80-minute yoga tape. I try to do it once a week, since
it's good stress relief as well as good for muscle tonight and balance.
Then I did
more wedding related things, such as sending out e-mails to people about
various concerns, including a group e-mail to those we are expecting at
the wedding rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner.
Finally,
just as The Gryphon came home, I rearranged the images in the image presentation
according to the notes I'd made the previous day. He designed menu cards
which were then printed on teal card stock. One of them will be propped
on each table so that our guests can know what they're eating.
All in all,
we'd crossed off many of the important things that would involve any amount
of time to accomplish, or which needed to be selected together. Pretty
much all the other tasks on our list are smaller ones which we're dividing
up between us. Teamwork, baby!
