January 12, 2007 - Found Children

The other night I spoke to my brother on the phone, and he filled me in on the latest developments with my niece and nephew. The conversation reminded me of a few found items I've collected that relate to children.

First is a photo of a toddler who's smiling cheerfully at the photographer. He's wearing a red, white and blue hoodie, which indicates it was probably cooler out, fall or winter, when the photo was taken.

When I collected it, the photo had clearly been lying on the sidewalk for a while, as evidenced by the scratches and dints all over the photo. There's no info on the back of the photo that could indicate where or when it was taken or who the cheerful toddler is. No doubt, there are many other photos of this camera-loving little one.

Next was a yellow rectangle of cardstock paper. On one side, it's a sign intended to be placed in a windshield, reading, "The Driver of this Vehicle Is Engaged in the Delivery of Telephone Directories".

On the other side, somebody had clearly been using it as scrap paper. At the top, in red ink, are notes for an upcoming assignment, picking up more phone books:

pick up on Sunday
8 - small
12    Big Book

At the bottom, also in red ink, is a list of things to get at the store, with a couple misspellings that could indicate a hurried hand:

Cat Food
Vietmin E
Sweet + Sour Sour
Rice

And in the middle, in a childlike hand and in green marker, someone has proudly written his name, "Isaiah".

Finally, I found a luggage tag featuring Snuggle, the bear mascot for the fabric softener of the same name. On the front, Snuggle holds a blue blanket with his paw to his mouth. On the back is a label to fill in name, address and phone number, none of which were filled in. The image below is roughly actual size.

Moral:
Snuggle may be a commercial mascot, but he's cute!
