A number of people are doing either a year in review or
the decade review. I'm going to do mine a little differently: through
pictures. Even though my husband, The Gryphon, tells me the decade won't
really begin until 2011, I'm going to look back 10 years and show you
what's changed.
Please excuse the quality of some of the older photos:
until we pick up the new scanner The Gryphon is getting me for Christmas,
I'm reduced to taking photos of photos.
What I Looked Like Ten Years Ago
(Faster-loading

A black and white photo of me in the year 2000,
at my top weight, when I wore a size 20.
I also had long, naturally curly hair.
In this shot, I'm reclining on my side, trying to look sexy.

A photo of me taken this morning, at 18 weeks pregnant.
You can see the protruding belly in the front.
Believe it or not, I still wear a medium in maternity clothes.
I'm standing on our bed, because that room has the best light.
What Una Looked Like Ten Years Ago
(Faster-loading
version)
Una as a puppy, in early 2000. She was already good
at posing for pictures.
You can see that her muzzle used to be brown.
When I first met her, in December, I could pick her up with one hand.

Where I Lived Ten Years Ago
(Faster-loading
version)
In 2000, I lived in a tiny second-floor apartment
in an old house I dubbed "The Crackhouse"
because of its state of disrepair. Every room had
either wood paneling or ancient wallpaper.
As you can see, it got quite cluttered when
The Luser was living with me. Most of the stuff
on the floor and the chair is his.

This is my living room right after we moved in
our new couch earlier this year. It does tend to
accumulate magazines and pet fur
but is a comfortable, gold and neutral-colored enclave,
with accents of burgundy and red.
Notice the one essential feature: a smiling Una!
My Love Life Ten Years Ago

This silhouette, taken through the beaded curtain
in my apartment, is the only photo I'm willing to share
of The Luser, a most deplorable human being.

My attractive, sweet husband, The Gryphon.
I took this photo in September at the Heinz Wildlife Refuge.
In this close-up, he's gazing into the distance with an easy smile.
Other Changes Over the Last Ten Years
-
Ten years ago, I drove a 1988 Ford Ranger named Red
Arrow. Today I drive a 2002 Ford Focus named Moondancer.
- Ten years ago, I worked at a small community newspaper in my hometown.
Today I work from home doing transcription of cable news programs, and
I'm working on several books I hope to have published in the next couple
of years.
- Ten years ago, I felt like my life was in transition. Today, I'm also
in transition, but I feel like I know where I'm going.
- Ten years ago, I wondered if I'd ever find true love, if I'd ever
have children. Today, I have found true love, and I'm expecting our
child. Life is good.
ETA: My adorable kitty, Luke, just rubbed his face on my chair to remind me that he's another happy addition to my life now. The Gryphon and I adopted him in November 2005.
